AFL-CIO HIT Grieves the Loss of Chief Economist Sondra Albert
The AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust (HIT) experienced a grave loss when Sondra Albert, HIT’s Chief Economist, passed on May 9, 2024. She valiantly battled cancer for over seven years. Sondra was a friend and esteemed colleague who was a part of the HIT team for 20 years. Her tenure with the HIT was marked by her tireless analysis of economic data and trends, and eagerness to delve into any subject. Through her work of quantifying the union jobs created and greater economic benefits fostered by HIT’s investments, she underscored the transformative and significant impact of HIT’s efforts.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sondra’s indomitable spirit shone through her pursuits as an Ironman triathlete, yoga instructor and NASCAR enthusiast. She embodied strength and resilience, which she generously shared by teaching yoga to children battling cancer.
Sondra is survived by a loving husband, two cherished children, and a multitude of friends and colleagues who were touched by her kindness and warmth. Her cheerful disposition and infectious smile brightened the lives of all who knew her, and her absence will be keenly felt. Though she may be gone, her impact on the HIT will endure as a testament to her remarkable character.
