Liz Shuler Secretary-Treasurer , AFL-CIO

Liz Shuler

Liz Shuler is Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO, having become the youngest person and first woman to serve as an executive officer of the AFL-CIO in September 2009. Ms. Shuler, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 125 in Oregon, previously served as the local’s legislative and political director. She later joined the international staff of the IBEW in Washington, DC, where she became Executive Assistant to the President of the IBEW. Among her many accomplishments, she led the union’s green jobs initiative, advised on major policy issues, helped implement the IBEW Code of Excellence, was active in youth and women’s issues, and oversaw 11 IBEW departments.

Ms. Shuler also plays an active role in community and allied organizations, serving on the boards of the National Women’s Law Center; Institute for Women’s Policy Research; Alliance for Retired Americans; the Solidarity Center; and the Committee on Worker’s Capital and Women’s Committee of the International Trade Union Confederation. She joined the HIT Board of Trustees in 2010 and is a member of the Audit Committee.

She is a graduate of the University of Oregon.
